Introducing the Doctor

Nationality:    Kenyan

Language:      English

Speciality:      Foot Care Nurse Practitioner

I am a Nurse Practitioner, not a Podiatrist who is Wound and Foot care certified. Podiatrists typically treat more complex foot issues, such as diagnosing and managing diseases or deformities. Routine services like toenail trimming may fall outside their area of emphasis, especially if the patient is not presenting with other significant foot problems. Some podiatrists may prefer that non-medical foot care is handled by other professionals, such as a foot care nurse practitioner or Foot care Certified Nurses.

As a nurse practitioner, I work collaboratively with patients and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and personalized care. I aim to help patients maintain healthy feet, prevent complications, and enhance their well-being. I work closely with individuals to manage issues such as diabetic foot care, ingrown nails (not infected), calluses, and thick long toenails.

Insurance Limitations:

Many insurance plans, including Medicare, only cover podiatric/foot care services if there’s a medical necessity. Routine toenail trimming without a medical condition is typically considered a non-covered service. This means that even if a podiatrist/Foot care Nurse Practitioner is willing to perform the service, it may not be covered by the patient’s insurance, and the patient might have to pay out-of-pocket.

However, foot care related to certain medical conditions—such as diabetes, poor circulation, or infections—may be covered if deemed medically necessary by a primary care physician. Foot care referrals are typically made by primary care providers or other healthcare professionals. If one believes a referral to a Foot Care Nurse Practitioner is appropriate, they can request a referral that can be sent to the client/AFH in this case then they notify me or fax directly to me.

Once a referral is received, I will reach out to the patient to schedule an appointment. During the initial consultation, we will review the patient’s medical history, conduct a thorough foot assessment, and develop a care plan. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to collaborating with you.
